Save the Date
We are having a training and 16th District Board Meeting on Saturday, September 21, 2019, 8:00am-12:15pm at Hill Education Center in Novato. We will provide breakfast and have a welcome address from Marin County Superintendent, Mary Jane Burke. We will then hold 2 breakout sessions for trainings. Please check for emails to come shortly as we are still ironing out the details.
Resolution and Legislation Update
16th District submitted a resolution to California State PTA on Temperature Control Standards in the School Setting which seeks to limit how hot temperatures get in classrooms. We are proud to report that the resolution passed at CAPTA Convention in May as written. You can find the resolution posted to CAPTA’s website here, http://downloads.capta.org/res/Temperature_Control_Standards_in_School.pdf.
We are also excited to let you know that Senator Mike McGuire’s office recently contacted us to let us know that this issue is going on the Bills Ideas List to the Education Committee in the fall. We are one step closer to seeing results to an issue that affects many of us in Marin County and throughout the state thanks to the advocacy power of PTA.
On that note, please consider adding a line item to your budgets to send someone from your PTA for Legislative Conference on January 13-14, 2020. We recommend about $1,000. Less if you can share a room with someone from another PTA. We will send more information as it gets closer. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions in the meantime.
