Why PTA?
WELCOME TO 16th DISTRICT PTA
Sixteenth District PTA is comprised of more than 8,000 parents and other concerned adults devoted to the educational success of children and the promotion of parent involvement in schools.
Sixteenth District PTA flourishes in 36 schools in Marin, Lassen and Plumas, Sierra and Modoc Counties. Together with other District and State PTAs, we harness the energy and talents of millions of volunteers to:

The term PTA is commonly used to describe any parent group. But the differences between PTA and other parent groups are many. Here are a few to consider:

Running a tax-exempt, 501(c) non-profit organization can sometimes be complex -- especially when school volunteers change from year to year. PTA provides training and local help on best practices and the latest regulations in the areas of fundraising, financial duties, membership drives, advocacy and so much more.

PTA provides highly affordable insurance for its units including $1 million in liability per occurrence and covers officers and chair members.

Membership
Membership for PTA has gone digital. If your PTA has not already signed up for a Totem account, visit https://capta.org/pta-leaders/services/electronic-membership-system/ to guide you through the process of setting up an account and to answer questions about online membership.

You should be getting a monthly newsletter sent from 16th District. It includes all the highlights from each month and reminders for deadlines and events that are coming.
The 16th District Blog is a new way for us to go more into depth about certain subjects. We will be able to answer questions more fully and address issues that come up when you are trying to navigate this rather large world of the PTA. The blog is a page on this site. You may choose to come and visit to read the blog or become a member to take a more active role.
